Aw Shucks!

I haven't done any theatre for quite awhile, and I really haven't done any shows without at least one other person from my family being in it with me, so getting to play the part of "Maw" in this little one-act play was a bit different for me.

Maw and her sister Clementine are always thinking up schemes and putting their matchmaking skills to work on the unsuspecting Roscoe.

Thanks goes to the show's director for catching me with such flattering facial expressions.

Maw is really not pleased that sister "Sissy" always seems to try and settle things.

I think my own kids get this look a lot, but probably not the "shush" finger.

Maw's  confused...how could a city girl get a good night's rest in a barn on an ear of corn???

If looks could kill......

Eavesdropping on a guy talking to his horse is one of Maw's specialties.

There just aren't enough words.....

Roscoe and his "Maw". Finally understandin' one 'nother.

It was so fun to be able to work with such a talented group of people.  They made my job as "Maw" so easy!  And now my circle of friends has gotten even larger.

Silver Beaver

To quote Wikipedia:

"The Silver Beaver Award
is the council-level distinguished service award
of the Boy Scouts of America.
Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders
who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council.
The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program
and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication,
 and many years of service.
It is given to those who do not actively seek it."

When Aaron was 8 years old, his granddad, Patrick McCune received the Silver Beaver Award.
Now, Aaron was surprised to receive this same honor from our council.
It is true what Wikipedia says about it being given to those who don't actively seek it, because Aaron has never done anything with the boy scouts for his own gain.
No person in my book is more deserving for his many years of service.
And this service is still on-going.
Next week he'll be on a freeze-out with the varsity scouts from our district.

And just as with everything at Whit's End, there was a conflict for the evening.
I had a performance of a play I've been in at a local theatre, so I couldn't go to the ceremony.
Needless to say, I wasn't happy about that, but since I couldn't be there,
Aaron had his sons be his escorts on the stage.
It turned out to be a neat experience for them.

I also sent invitations out to family and friends.
Aaron was very surprised by all the people who showed up to support him.

Congratulations Aaron!  We couldn't be prouder!

Superbowl Hike!

Everyone should know that we really aren't American Football Fans.
However, if the Packers were in the Superbowl, we would be watching.
Since they weren't, we were just planning on life going on as usual.
Until, that is, my brother DeVere and  sister-in-law Kris invited us over to watch it with them.

That same day, we realized that Enoch only needed to do one more thing to be able to move up to the 2nd class rank in boy scouts.

That one little thing that needed to be done before Tuesday's court of honor?
Just a 5 mile hike using a map and compass!
Luckily, this mom isn't scared of a little cross country hike in January on a Sunday afternoon!

Since DeVere and Kris live approximately 5 miles away from our house
 --thank you google maps--
we decided that we would walk there and arrive just in time to watch the superbowl.
Sam volunteered to walk with us.  We bundled up and off we went.
Enoch followed the route on the map on my phone, and also used the compass accordingly.
It took us about one hour and 25 minutes to hike the whole way!

And, to top off the night, The Patriots -Uncle DeVere's team won!

Night Skiing!

Every year our town hosts a ski night at the local ski resort.
We have never gone.
  Something always seems to conflict.
Until this year.

Since we had the night free, we decided to head up the mountain for a fun night on the slopes.
Samuel was especially happy, because he finally got to try out his new snowboard and boots he received for Christmas.
(He had been begging non stop since Christmas Day)

The rest of us rented our gear -Aaron and Enoch Snowboards.
Kiera and I Skis.
The weather was perfect...in fact, almost too warm,
and we had a bunch of fun.
I stayed with Enoch most of the night and never did see Kiera nor Samuel on the slopes.
Too fast for my blood.

After exhaustion hit, they finally came to the lodge for some refreshments.

I think we just may find ourselves doing this activity again!

Saying Goodbye to Mom

After four months at our house, it was time for Mom to go spend the winter with Maralee.

Since Maralee was already here  for her grandson Tyler's missionary homecoming,
the plan became to have Mom fly to Las Vegas with her.

Lynae and I drove her down to the airport and met Maralee there.
Got the luggage checked in and sent her on her way!

The house sure seems empty without her.
