Just the Girls

A few weeks ago both of the girls had a choir concert at the high school. It was a fun one since both of the high schools and middle schools were involved.  They brought in a guest conductor and practiced for a few days together and then performed.

I thought I'd just share a few pictures that I took.  I had the girls cornered in the hall beforehand and snapped a couple before they went on stage.

If you've ever tried to take pictures during a concert, you know what I mean when I comment on how hard it is to take a good one.  I try almost every concert and almost every time I end up just deleting most of them.  It is so hard to capture a good expression while the subject is singing.
I was surprised and amazed to get this one of Shenna actually smiling!  Noted, they weren't actually in the middle of singing, but listening to someone at the microphone.

She looks like she just might be enjoying herself!

Won't You Be My Valentine?

My mom used to make us a special breakfast every Valentine's Day.  I always looked forward to it, and I have kept up the tradition with my husband and kids.
First I plan the menu, then decorate the table.
Of course, chocolate is always involved.

The boys were up early in anticipation of a great feast. Of course they were also looking forward to the valentine chocolate and candies.

I didn't get a picture of the girls at the table.  They have to leave every morning at 6:30 for jazz band practice, so they had to eat and run.  They weren't real enthused to have their picture taken that early in the morning.

It felt really strange this year to only have to help one boy make the valentines for his class.  We actually didn't even get started on them until February 13.  We made them from scratch on the computer, printed them out, then stapled sweethearts candy to them.
They say, "I get at KICK out of you Valentine!

After school I got word that someone in our house had recieved another valentine at school.
Turns out, Shenna had some special chocolates delivered to her during lunch.
She had to take a bite out of each one until she found the hidden message.

It was a great Valentine's Day.

Groundhogs for Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day.
Just another one of those holidays with a name, but nothing more.
As for shadows,
if we were to look right here where we live,
we definitely have six more weeks of winter.
The "official" groundhog in Pennsylvania said that we'd have an early spring.

I doubt it.
So to make up for disappointing local groundhog predictions
We made groundhogs.

And then ate them.

Very satisfying!

Yes.  Very satisfying indeed!
